Originally a Trion coloby, Sarn proved to be too inhospitable due to the high amount of volcaninc activity on the planet. The Trions were interested in the Numismaton Flame which has the ability to cure illness and even extend a persons life.
Sarn eventually became a dumping ground Trion's political prisoners. The Master managed to take control of Kamelion and use the robot to bring the fifth Doctor to Sarn. The Master had been involved in an accident with his tissue compression emiliminator and become shrunk.
The Master needed Kamelion to take him into the Numismation Flame where he could be restored to health. Turlough, an exile from Trion, summoned the Trions to take the survivors away from Sarn as the planet was unstable.
