When the fifth Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan and Adric visited the planet Deva Loka they found a group of Earth colonists assessing the planet for its suitability.
At first the planet seems to be close to paradise with a mild climate and warm blue seas. Much of Deva Loka is covered by sub-tropical jungles.
As well as being a pleasant world it is also capable of sustaining a colony, being rich in exotic fruits. The world of Deva Loka was larlgely unspolit, and the arrival of the colonists distrurbed the native Kinda.
The colonists underestimated the telepathic Kinda, and also several colonists disappeared. When the evil entity, known as the Mara, took over Tegan's mind, the planet was deemed unsuitable for colonisation.
