Around the Earth year 1676 a crippled Zygon spacecraft landed in Loch Ness. Three centuries later the Zygons learnt that their home planet was destroyed by a catastrophe and planned to take over Earth with the aim of eventually rehoming the entire Zygon species.
The Zygons brought with them an embryo which later grew to be the Skarasen. Occasionally it was glimpsed in the Lock Ness by
humans and was coined the term the Loch Ness monster.
The Zygons possessed the technology to use a humans body pattern and reshape themselves into a human, allowing them to move around freely among human society. They planned to use the Skarasen, and their new forms, to de-stabilise the Government which would lead to the terraforming of Earth.
The Doctor managed to destroy the Zygon spacecraft and all remaining Zygons, and set free the Skarasen, which presumably returned home to Loch Ness.
