Neanderthals were possibly one stage of the evolutionary process of human beings, somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000 B.C., replaced by modern humans by the dæmons. There is also a belief that neanderthals were not part of the human evolution but merely an offshot that later became extinct.
Nimrod, a neanderthal encountered by the seventh Doctor and Ace, was made immortal by the powerful alien Light, and became a servant to Josiah Smith. After helpingto defeat Smith he left in a spacecraft with Control and Fenn-Cooper.
