Mechanoids

The Mechanoids are large, spherical robots designed by humans to prepare new worlds for colonisation. A group had been dispatched to the planet Mechanus to prepare it for colonisation. The colonists never arrived, and the Mechanoids maintained an empty city.

When Steven Taylor crashed on the planet he was imprisioned by the Mechanoids as he did not know the correct identification codes. When the first Doctor arrived on the planet he and his companions were also imprisioned as he too did not know the correct codes

When the Daleks arrived they attacked the Mechanoids, and the Mechanoids fought back. Both groups were mutually destroyed.
