Marshmen

The Marshmen were caught in an ecological loop. Every fifty years, when the Mistfall came on Alzarius, river fruit would become infected with eggs from Spiders. In the next Mistfall they would emerge as Marshmen.

The Marshmen would attack the crew of the Starliner, and kill all the occupants, before evolving once again into a form resembling a Terradon. The process would repeat every fifty years with the Mistfall.

The fourth Doctor broke the chain by teaching the current Terradonians how to take off in the Starliner. The crew of the Starliner left Alzarius on route for Terradon, or any other suitable planet.
