STORY:
The TARDIS materialises on the unnamed planet of the Gond's, where the Doctor finds a society is ruled, and taught, by an alien race known as the Krotons.
The Krotons are crystalline beings who, after their ship the Dynatrope crashed thousands of years ago, are held in suspended animation. To be awakened they need sufficient mental energy.
Periodically the two best students are taken to be with the Krotons. In truth their mental energies are absorbed by the Krotons. When the Doctor and Zoe enter, and pass for, selection, their mental power awakens the Krotons.
The Kroton's life system is based on tellurium. With the help of a Gond scientist, Beta, the Doctor is able to construct a form of impure sulphuric acid that is fatal to the Krotons.
